On the High Rank Π/3 and 2π/3-congruent Number Elliptic Curves
Consider the elliptic curves given by En,θ : y 2 = x + 2snx − (r − s)nx where 0 < θ < π, cos(θ) = s/r is rational with 0 ≤ |s| < r and gcd(r, s) = 1. These elliptic curves are related to the θ-congruent number problem as a generalization of the congruent number problem. For xed θ this family corresponds to the quadratic twist by n of the curve Eθ : y 2 = x +2sx − (r − s)x. We study two special ...
متن کاملOn the rank of certain parametrized elliptic curves
In this paper the family of elliptic curves over Q given by the equation Ep :Y2 = (X - p)3 + X3 + (X + p)3 where p is a prime number, is studied. Itis shown that the maximal rank of the elliptic curves is at most 3 and someconditions under which we have rank(Ep(Q)) = 0 or rank(Ep(Q)) = 1 orrank(Ep(Q))≥2 are given.
متن کاملTate-shafarevich Groups of the Congruent Number Elliptic Curves
Using elliptic modular functions, Kronecker proved a number of recurrence relations for suitable class numbers of positive binary quadratic forms. For instance if F (N) denotes the number of uneven classes of positive binary quadratic forms with determinant −N, then
متن کاملThree lectures on elliptic surfaces and curves of high rank
Three lectures on elliptic surfaces and curves of high rank Noam D. Elkies Over the past two years we have improved several of the (Mordell–Weil) rank records for elliptic curves over Q and nonconstant elliptic curves over Q(t). For example, we found the first example of a curve E/Q with 28 independent points P i ∈ E(Q) (the previous record was 24, by R. Martin and W. McMillen 2000), and the fi...
متن کاملIntegral points on congruent number curves
We provide a precise description of the integer points on elliptic curves of the shape y2 = x3 − N2x, where N = 2apb for prime p. By way of example, if p ≡ ±3 (mod 8) and p > 29, we show that all such points necessarily have y = 0. Our proofs rely upon lower bounds for linear forms in logarithms, a variety of old and new results on quartic and other Diophantine equations, and a large amount of ...
